Hello, and a Big Welcome to the Party

We look forward to partying with you to celebrate Peter’s big birthday in Athens in May. On this page you’ll find all of the information you’ll need to plan your itinerary, travel, and accommodation to join us at the event.

The only fixed itinerary is a rooftop party on the evening of Saturday 2nd May 2026 – which will be at the Rooftop Gardents atop The Foundry Suites, located in the vibrant Psyrri neighbourhood of downtown Athens.

Either side of this, please feel free plan any and all activities to make the very most of your travels – be it the city of Athens, Greece, or the Medditerranean. We have shared our itinerary below … you are welcome to join us for any and all of this over your time in Athens.

Peter’s life goal is very simple: to eat nice food, with nice people, at a nice place (perhaps throw in a little dance for good measure!), and we can’t wait to do all that with you.

FAQs

This three-day plan in the run up to the Satuday evening party balances iconic ancient history with the unique local rhythm of Athens. Note: Friday, May 1st is a national holiday, and major archaeological sites are closed, so we have adjusted the schedule to ensure we don’t miss out.

The Acropolis & Parthenon and The Acropolis Museum

We will start our day early (planned 0800 entry) at the Acropolis of Athens, the sacred rock that has defined the city for millennia. Here we can view the Parthenon and the Erechtheion with its famous Caryatid porch.

After exploring the heights, we will move to the modern Acropolis Museum to see the original treasures found on the hill (planned 1100 entry). Here we can view the Parthenon Frieze at eye level and walk over glass floors revealing an ancient neighborhood below.

Lunch plans: We will either head to the museum restaurant for a meal with a direct view of the Parthenon, or wander into Plaka for a traditional taverna experience.

Booking information: For those wishing to join, you must pre-book tickets for both the Acropolis and the Museum. These must be booked in advance for a specific timeslot. We will notify via the WhatsApp group once tickets are available to buy for April 30th.

Local Vibes, Plaka, and Scenic Views

Since major sites are closed today for the May Day holiday, we will embrace the local tradition of Protomagia (the first of May). This is a day for Greeks to head outdoors and celebrate spring. We plan on spending the morning wandering through Anafiotika, a tiny neighborhood that looks like a Cycladic island nestled under the Acropolis. From here we can hike up Philopappos Hill for the best panoramic photos of the city without needing a ticket.

Lunch Suggestion: We plan on enjoying a long, slow lunch in the Plaka or Psirri districts. Note that many shops and cafes will remain open even though museums are closed.

Key info and tips: Transport Alert – be aware that public transport (Metro/Buses) often goes on strike or runs a very limited schedule on May 1st. Taxis are our best bet. Closures: All major archaeological sites (Acropolis, Agora, Stadium) are strictly closed today.

Ancient Agora and the Panathenaic Stadium

Today we’ll explore the birthplace of democracy in the morning and the world’s only all-marble stadium in the afternoon.

We’ll first visit the Ancient Agora of Athens, once the city’s marketplace and political center (aim for 1000 entry). It is home to the stunning Temple of Hephaestus.
We’ll grab a quick bite for an early lunch in the Thissio neighborhood which borders the Agora and which offers many cafes with great views, before walking to the Panathenaic Stadium, where the first modern Olympic Games were held in 1896. The two sites are a pleasant 25-minute walk apart through the historic center.

When do I need to be in Athens?

You only need to be there for the evening of Saturday 2nd May. We will be in town from the Thursday prior to enjoy some sight-seeing ahead of the party. We may, depending on appetite, arrange for a casual lunchtime gathering the Sunday following the party.

Is there a dress-code?

Chris lobbied hard for a theme, but we have decided against. Please dress up for an evening of fun and special times with friends. We recommend bringing a light jacket or wrap, as the rooftop can get breezy once the sun sets.

Will food be available?

Yes, the event will be catered. Pizzas and picnic platters will be served along with an open bar. Please let us know any allergies and dietary requirements, if you haven’t already.

Will there be an after party?

We will look to organise an after party for those keen to kick on into the night. More information to come.

Birthday gifts?

No gifts are expected, but if you feel inclined, please make sure the Porsche is delivered to London.

What’s the best way to stay in touch?

To keep everyone updated, we have set up a WhatsApp group for all those attending. If you aren’t on the WhatsApp group please drop Chris a mesage and he’ll ensure that you get added. Any major updates we’ll post to this page.
